In this tutorial I will show you how to make a fairy effect named abstract pollen
First, find an image you want to work with. In this tutorial I use the image below:
Step 1:Create a new layer and select the Gradient tool(G). On the top toolbar set its option to "Radial Gradient" and set the colors as below:
Now draw a line to colorize this layer like this:
Step 2: Change the blending mode of this layer to Overlay to get an effect like this (notice that the bottom left corner is the place where the girl is standing, so we will see yellow on her skin). I choose this dark-yellow color because it makes the picture warm.
Step 3: Create new layer and use the Gradient tool one more time but with these colors:
Draw a line to colorize this layer like this:
And change the blending mode of this layer to Overlay, too:
Step 4: Now press Ctrl-Shift-Alt-E to create a composite layer
Step 5: Now to the most important part of this tutorial: we will make the abstract pollen at this step. First, select the Brush tool(B) and set its parameters as shown below (Brush type: soft; Size:9; Mode: Color Dodge; Opacity:100%).
Click on the Brush icon on the right toolbar and set its parameters like the images below:
Step 6: Now it's time to make the beautiful pollen! Don't click the mouse, just drag and drop you will get something like that after the first "drag and drop"
Try doing a few times with your mouse, you will get a very beautiful image as below, which is also the final result of this tutorial:
I just want to notice that you have to set the brush mode to "Color Dodge" as mentioned in step 5. This mode make the brush blend well with the background and make the image more real.
